Coworking o co-working (se puede escribir de ambas formas), ¿sábes lo que es?, posiblemente no, pero está de moda y en boca de mucha gente, así que espero que este post te ayude a entenderlo para “unirte” y contribuir a su difusión.
Hoy en día es habitual googlear todo aquello sobre lo que queremos saber algo más, o simplemente ir a consultarlo a la Wikipedia. En este último caso, la definición del término en inglés nos ayuda a crear un concepto concreto sobre el mismo, a la vez que hace referencia a su historia y nos remite a otros enlaces relacionados.
Al margen de esto, en WeKCo creemos que el coworking se define más por el HACER que por el DECIR, por ello quizás no resulta adecuado encajarlo en una única definición, pues por una parte restringiríamos demasiado el uso y valor del término, y por otra dejaríamos fuera multitud de experiencias, actividades e iniciativas que encajarían perfectamente en el mismo.

Pero entonces, ¿qué es?…, el coworking es una actitud y una emoción; una actitud abierta, colaborativa, proactiva, positiva, conectada,… ; una emoción derivada de la pertenencia a una comunidad abierta, con unos valores que favorecen tanto nuestro desarrollo personal como profesional.
¡Ya!, un tanto etéreo ¿no?, quizás con los valores definidos en el Manifiesto Coworking lo aclaremos un poco.
Los valores (Código de Conducta de la Comunidad)
Tenemos el talento. Sólo necesitamos trabajar juntos. Entornos diferentes requieren solaparse, para conectarse y relacionarse con el objetivo de transformar nuestra cultura. Con el fin de crear una comunidad sostenible, basada en la confianza, nosotros valoramos:
- La colaboración por encima de la competición
- la comunidad por encima de las agendas
- la participación por encima de la observación
- el hacer por encima del decir
- la amistad por encima de la formalidad
- la osadía por encima de la conformidad
- el aprendizaje por encima de la experiencia
- las personas por encima de las personalidades
- El “ecosistema de valor” por encima de la “cadena de valor”
Los espacios de coworking
Si antes dijimos que el término “coworking” está de moda, más aún si lo asociamos a la palabra “espacio”. Como habrás visto, hasta aquí hemos hablado de coworking de forma general, sin necesidad de especificar cuándo o dónde. ¿Por qué?, simplemente por que se puede “hacer” de tantas formas como nos podamos imaginar, y muchas sin necesidad de disponer de un espacio físico.
Sin embargo, también es cierto que un espacio físico que favorezca la presencia y diversidad de personas, las relaciones abiertas y de confianza, el sentimiento de comunidad, y que además resulte útil como espacio de trabajo favorecerá enormemente el “hacer” del coworking. Y eso es lo que representa un espacio de coworking, cada uno con su identidad y valores propios, pero con una filosofía común al “movimiento coworking”.

El uso del término coworking
Estamos en una sociedad en la que la utilización de anglicismos hace más “cool” -léase este ejemplo 
– a las cosas por el simple uso de un nombre o palabra que le resulta complidada de decir y de recordar. Evidentemente, el coworking (co-trabajo, trabajo colaborativo) es un ejemplo más, pues ¡suena bien!…
…más allá del término “coworking”, lo que realmente debe importarnos es la actitud y la emoción con la que afrontamos nuestra vida y nuestro mundo.
Por otro lado, cuando un anglicismo se pone de moda, enseguida todo el mundo se apropia del mismo para emplearlo con indiferencia y de forma “no adecuada”, desconociendo habitualmente lo que hay detrás del mismo. Al igual que ha pasado con “coaching”, “e-learning”,…, esto es lo que sucede actualmente con el término “coworking”, pues lo verás en toda clase de reuniones y eventos, en los servicios ofrecidos por centros de negocios, en los viveros de empresa, en centros tecnológicos, a los políticos y a la Administración, etc.
No pasa nada porque se emplee “coworking” en cualquier ámbito, pero siempre que conlleve fidelidad a sus valores y principios, en los que: la comunidad, el compromiso, la participación y colaboración activa de todos los involucrados, la apertura al exterior y el sentimiento de pertenencia, sean el eje central de cualquier actividad. El resto de usos simplemente generan confusión o una imagen equivocada a quienes desconocen el término y sus implicaciones, desprestigiando por lo general el mismo.
Pero no quisiera acabar este artículo con una visión negativa, sino todo lo contrario, diciendo que más allá del término “coworking”, lo que realmente debe importarnos es la actitud y la emoción con la que afrontamos nuestra vida y nuestro mundo.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Referente al término Coworking; se está asumiendo una definición que alguien en algún momento la manifestó y todo dios se agarra a ella. Pues bien, yo me dedico a esto (tengo mi propio espacio en Madrid) y no comparto la filosofía.
Vamos a ver. Se trata de compartir, ok. Llevamos desde siempre compartiendo (el planeta, pais, ciudad, calles, aceras, restaurantes, cines, autobuses, etc. y hasta a nuestros niños les inculcamos que compartan). Pero me pregunto ¿el que tenemos que compartir? ¿”la comunidad, el compromiso, la participación y colaboración activa de todos los involucrados”? No lo comparto.
Si un emprendedor trabaja sabe encontrar perfectamente la comunidad para “rellenar” sus vacios (ok, no tan directo pero no debe ser un problema). ¿Colaborar? ¿Porque? Si tengo mi trabajo que tengo que sacar adelante para que voy a colaborar, lo haré si el tiempo, mis compromisos profesionales y la ocasión lo permite.
Creo, sinceramente, que el coworking debe fijarse mucho más en aportar espacios de calidad con todas las tecnologías (como si fuese una multinacional) pero para emprendedores, autónomos, etc. que al compartir el espacio y las tecnologías se hace económicamente más viable pero que sobre todo les permita ser más competitivo en lo que YA tienen y no en lo que PUEDAN hacer en un proyecto de FUTURO.

Como indico en el artículo, no merece la pena discutir sobre si “coworking” es esto o lo otro, pero desde mi punto de vista tampoco creo que haya que utilizarlo cuando es posible que otros términos sean más adecuados.
En ningún momento he querido decir que sea obligatorio compartir, colaborar o participar en todo lo que se hace en un “espacio de coworking”, pero sí que me ratifico en que es una “actitud” y esta implica estar más orientado a la colaboración, la participación y a alimentar el sentido de comunidad de lo que estábamos acostumbrados. Esto no es lo que hemos estado haciendo hasta ahora, pues sí, siempre existió la colaboración, pero “colaboración interesada” en general. Si hacemos lo misno que “siempre”, obtendremos “lo mismo de siempre”. Pero ¡no pasa nada!, pues el coworking no es la solución para todo, sino una opción más entre las que elegir.
Estoy de acuerdo en que es primordial que un espacio de trabajo ofrezca servicios de calidad (generalmente ya lo hacen) a un precio razonable; esto puede beneficiar sin dudas a emprendedores y pequeños empresarios. ¿Pero por qué llamarlo coworking si no conlleva otros valores?, por llamarlo “espacio profesional de trabajo” (y si quieres añadiendo “a precio reducido”), tampoco hay ningún problema ¿no?.

He visto en la red el espacio que acabas de abrir, y me parece muy bien montado y con todo lo que se necesita para trabajar, pero está claro que tu orientación es distinta a los valores del coworking. Estoy totalmente de acuerdo con JDPereiro en lo que conlleva un espacio de coworking y la implicación y la forma de ser de sus miembros, donde prima la colaboración al interés propio, ya que de esta manera, nuestras necesidades serán compensadas incluso mucho más cuando nos haga falta ayuda o colaboración. Por lo tanto, tu filosofía es tan válida como cualquier otra, y los miembros que acudan a tu espacio la compartirán o si no buscarán otro espacio que se adapte más a ellos, al igual que nos ocurre a nosotros, ya que hay una especie de “selección natural” que hace que la gente que se quede crea más en los valores del coworking.
Por lo tanto, lo que se discute no es que pueda haber otras opciones, sino que si sus gestores y sus miembros no comparten ni apoyan lo que realmente el coworking significa, debe de llamarse de otra manera, dígase centro de negocios, oficina compartida, o espacio de trabajo a coste reducido…
Pero nunca deberá llamarse espacio de coworking, ya que realmente no lo es.
